The Mitten State is an awesome company that prints and designs all of their shirts in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have some of the softest shirts I have ever had the opportunity to wear.

They needed a website that was easy to function and also gave them unlimited capabilities for order processing and tracking. I suggested a WordPress site (of course), with the WP E-Commerce plug-in, which is very “tweakable”. It does pretty much anything for a shopping cart site and is very easy to maintain down the road.

they will soon be introducing their products on their Facebook fan page to be bought directly from their site. You can become a fan of them on Facebook and be in a weekly drawing to win a free shirt. Do it!

a Digital Brain is a personal blog of mine that I built out of the blue as I noticed this domain used to get a tremendous amount of hits in the past, so when I saw it was available for sale I bought it up and slapped a nice WordPress blog on it and then built a nice theme to easily be navigated by any user.

Nate wanted a website that was easy to navigate and use while having no-loss of quality and optimal functionality. This website is powered by WordPress to allow Nate to easily make new posts, updates and also organize all of his contest and personal fishing photos.

Nate is a local to West Michigan living somewhere on the Muskegon River near Newaygo, MI which goes to show how great the Michigan rivers and lakes truly are. He is not the only professional fisherman living in Michigan either which confirms how amazing West Michigan is.

I use Gmail to manage all of my email and recently started to want to have an image in my signature. Sounds simple enough right? Well unless you know what you’re looking for to get this to work than you will mostly become frustrated and annoyed by Gmail. Before it gets to that point, you hopefully stumbled upon lite-code via a search engine to find out how to do this.

It is very simple.

Goto the Labs icon (a little green beaker)

Enable “Canned Responses” & “Inserting Images”

Goto Compose Mail and Click the “Insert Image” icon on the tool bar above the content box.

** You have to make sure the image is on your computer, not a URL (for some reason I couldnt get it to work this way, but once it is uploaded to the Gmail server you can delete the image from your local computer.)

You will then start creating your signature with text in your Compose Mail content area. Once you have it how you would like it, you simply click on “Canned Responses” and click Save… Name it to something you will remember if you have more than one signature.

Now when ever you want to include it in an email you are sending, you simply click on “Canned Responses” and you will see the signature you saved and voila, it pops it in for you. Enjoy your new Gmail Signature!

I recently jumped on board with a new kind of social networking tool. But instead of it focusing directly on me, it basically wants to know where I am. It works by checking-in to a business or public place that a lot of people visit, such as Schools, Parks, Government Buildings and anything else that someone would visit that isn’t considered residential or work. You earn points and badges for visiting places and in a way you will find yourself checking in to see if you have become mayor. That’s right!, you can become Mayor of a restaurant or your favorite coffee shop by simply checking in more than anyone else.

There is no limit to how many times you can check into a place, so it does work on the honor system and will also announce to your friends where you last checked in. The local businesses love this in Grand Rapids, especially on Wealthy St. as there is an elite group of people running around the city checking into anywhere they go. I find myself walking through a grocery store and noticing they have some really nice organic apples, so I then remember to “check-in” and I add a tip to the store, which will pop up a message to the next few people who check-in to the grocery store and announce my message about the organic apples.

When I first heard about Foursquare, I thought it was just another one of these random Social Networking Tool thrown into this over-saturated trend of web apps. But I was wrong! It is a cool little app especially if you are a striving business in a small or large city. This is just one more simple way for me to easily market lite-code, inc. as well as help my good friend when I check into his local business (Urban Pharm).Click the appropriate device above to the install the app and start keeping track of your daily errands and activities.

When I am not working on websites or anything else for that matter. I usually will snap photos, I’ll admit I haven’t been doing it nearly as much as I used to. I also still have thousands of photos to go through. I was on Flickr the other day debating on renewing my pro account or not when I started to research the idea of selling my prints to people.

I am aware there are thousands of websites that do that, but I am thinking more local if anything. So I was looking for some ideas on how to make a site that is simple, yet intriguing to someone who was maybe thinking of buying a nice large sized photo for their office, home or as a gift. I wanted to have an art gallery feel to the site, I stumbled on a site that was offering interior design and the pages scrolled from side to side, to make it look like the walls were being sling-shotted into place. I used 1 HTML file, and some jQuery to power the art gallery site I built to showcase my favorite photos.

It still has a little ways to go as I need to sort all of my photos and put them on there, but it somewhat functional and has some minor CSS issues at the moment.

Check it out @ http://rgivs.com/

I have recently worked on a website that needed to accept payments on their site. They were under the impression t

hat they must have a secure connection on the entire site, which is not entirely true. Where any personal, credit card or bank information is being asked for is where the secure connection must be utilized. Most banks offer merchant accounts at a decent rate, but that will only allow you to accept credit cards, and the bank does not offer you a secure site connection. Some banks may offer assistance at a staggering rate for their “IT/Web” guy to integrate a payment system on your site, but you are much better off hiring a local fr

eelancer to save some money. Secure connections through a reputable company can run from $99 – $150 per year for the connection, but most Hosting companies offer these now at a much lower cost.

If you are on a strict budget with your site, consider using Paypal or Google Checkout, it is very easy for a web designer to integrate

into your site without taking too much time, thus costing you less. The main draw back to this is the 3% transaction fee, this may be fine for starting companies and for products that are not very expensive, but the 3% does add up quickly if you are selling a lot. The benefit to working with these offered checkout systems is the invoicing. Most shopping carts require an invoicing module of some sort, and most of these cost money. Paypal and Google will send you a purchase order and the customer and invoice right away without you having to do anything besides, ship the products. If you are considering building a shopping cart site, I recommend Joomla with the VirtueMart module hands down. Most advanced developers might not agree, but unless you are selling a t

remendous amount of products and need unlikely features, it will do everything for you. It is OpenSource which means it’s FREE and supported by a large community, and also has a staggering amount of modules, plug-ins and templates.

I have used Joomla a lot in my days of coding, and would recommend it to anyone to power a shopping cart. If you need help or advice feel free to send me a message and I will help you any way possible.

I recently was looking into adding a live chat plug-in to my site to help clients with questions live and on the fly. I have been using a analytics software called Woopra, which basically gives you live site stats. They have a nice little utility you can view everything in via your desktop. I am patiently awaiting the mobile version. My site by no means gets a ton of traffic but with the traffic that does trickle in, I can now see how they found, when they found, and why they may be looking for my services. Google TalkBack will now give a person (with or without a google account) the ability to simply click on a “Chat with lite-code, inc.” badge that is on our site. Which will then open a small chat window and will initiate chat with me, when I am signed on of course.

There is one huge draw back to this, on my end, I have no clue who I am talking with unless they tell me. It shows me the name “Guest”. But I wanted to use something that didn’t ask too many questions right away, as most people are leery to give out all their information, unless they are truly getting something in return.

You can check out Talk Back here. Let me know what you think.
